Watchmaker Genomics is hiring a Research Scientist I

About the Role

Watchmaker Genomics is looking for a Research Scientist I to support a research program focused on developing and characterizing novel, proprietary reagents for genomics applications. You will design, execute, and document experimental protocols, working closely with scientific and commercial teams.

What You'll Do

  • Plan and perform molecular biology experiments including enzyme characterization and optimization, and next-generation sequencing sample prep.
  • Develop novel bioinformatics tools to analyze next-generation sequencing data.
  • Independently design, implement, and maintain experiments and laboratory protocols.
  • Carefully interpret data and accurately document the details of all experiments.
  • Contribute to a team responsible for launch of commercially successful enzymes and genomics products.
  • Participate in customer collaborations and product support.
  • Identify opportunities for internal process improvement.

What We're Looking For

  • PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline, or MS with 3 years industry experience, or BS with 5 years industry experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute, reproduce and troubleshoot molecular biology lab work.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform bioinformatic analyses.
  • The ability to multitask, perform consistently under pressure and work without supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work as an effective member of a team.
  • Experience with standard molecular biology techniques such as PCR, qPCR, vector design, and gene cloning methods.
  • Excellent organizational skills and outstanding attention to detail.
  • Good communication and personal task management skills and a high level of self-motivation.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in next-generation sequencing (NGS), sample preparation, PCR, qPCR, NGS data analysis and bioinformatic pipeline development.
  • Knowledge of DNA- and RNA-modifying enzymes.

  • Compensation: $83,000-$87,000 + equity.
