The University of Chicago Press is looking for a Research Professional to support the Booth School of Business faculty and the Fama-Miller Center for Research in Finance. You will work closely with faculty and directors to manage research projects, analyze data, and achieve the Center’s goals. This position is expected to last two years and is part of an environment that constantly questions and tests ideas to find innovative solutions.
What You'll Do
- Support ongoing research projects by conducting searches and compiling, manipulating, and analyzing data.
- Collect, manage, and structure quantitative datasets.
- Conduct complex statistical analysis, write statistical software programs, and organize the presentation of results.
- Create charts, tables, and descriptive text for presentations.
- Obtain and organize research information from other academic institutions and practitioners.
- Maintain effective communication with all members of the faculty and outside institutions.
- Proofread and edit citations for research reports, working papers, and publications.
- Maintain technical and administrative support for research projects.
- Analyze and maintain data and/or specimens, conduct literature reviews, and assist with report and manuscript preparation.
- Perform other related work as needed.
What We're Looking For
- A college or university degree in a related field.
- Knowledge and skills developed through less than 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Nice to Have
- A Bachelor's degree by the start date (June 2026).
- Coursework in statistics or econometrics.
- A minimum of one year of relevant research experience.
- A background in economics or a related field.
- A strong quantitative background and strong computer skills, including programming.
- Proficiency in Stata, Matlab, Python, R, or related software.
- Knowledge of research techniques or methods.
- A strong interest in attending graduate school and a strong GPA.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent professional verbal, written, and presentation skills, with organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, work well independently and with others, and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Excellent time-management skills and ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Ability to seek out, coordinate, and appropriately disseminate information.
- Eagerness to take initiative and solve intricate problems.
- Ability to train others and proven understanding of the program and its goals.
