U-Haul's RES Consultant Group is seeking a Remote Senior Controller - Government Contracts to provide strategic leadership and exceptional outsourced controllership services. In this client-facing role, you'll be accountable for managing staff while acting as a strong individual contributor, delivering advisory services and ensuring compliance with complex federal regulations like FAR, CAS, and DCAA.

What You'll Do

• Develop and maintain accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate, timely financial statements compliant with DCAA, FAR, CAS, and GAAP.
• Provide advisory services by analyzing historical data and future projections to help clients achieve their business vision.
• Act as a trusted advisor, developing an understanding of each client's unique business and accounting needs.
• Provide strategic leadership into scalable accounting operations, ensuring internal control systems, policies, and procedures are followed.
• Develop and maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures for clients.
• Manage the month-end closing process and issue monthly financial reports.
• Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of financial reporting, contracts, and general ledger structure, ensuring information is properly entered into QuickBooks & ICAT.
• Analyze financial and operational information to provide real-time, meaningful recommendations.
• Direct a team of virtual accounting professionals to deliver timely and accurate monthly financial reporting packages for multiple clients.
• Support, train, motivate, and mentor virtual accounting specialists, conducting timely performance reviews.
• Provide strategic guidance and operational decision-making to clients' senior leadership teams, recommending and implementing best practices.

What We're Looking For

• CPA license active and in good standing.
• 10–15 years of progressive accounting experience, combining 5+ years in public accounting and 5+ years in private industry.
• Several years of direct, client-facing outsourced accounting experience.
• 5 years of supervisory experience.
• Strong experience with QuickBooks, ICAT and/or other accounting software packages.
• Must have government contracting industry experience.
• Solid understanding of federal contracts, full accrual accounting, and working knowledge of FAR, CAS, and DCAA compliance requirements.
• Adaptive leadership style with a passion for mentoring staff.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Technical, analytical focus with a pro-active, problem-solving nature.
• High degree of computer literacy, including extensive knowledge in Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook and Excel.
• Must be a US Citizen residing in the US. Applications from California, Colorado, New Jersey, and New York will not be considered.

Team & Environment

This is a leadership position accountable for managing several staff, including Controllers, Accounting Supervisors, and Accounting Specialists, while also being a strong individual contributor. You'll report into both the client's leadership team and the company's internal leadership team.
