Union Tank Car Company is seeking a Regional Safety Manager to support facilities within their region in implementing and overseeing the company’s health and safety program. You will partner closely with Operations leadership to embed a Safety Mindset across all business activities and conduct internal audits to ensure program performance.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate with Operations leaders in your assigned region to ensure safety procedures and policies are effectively implemented at each facility.
- Provide specialized training for front-line team members using approved materials, including New Supervisor orientation and Confined Space Entry Training.
- Conduct investigations of incidents, injuries, and near misses, performing root cause analysis and developing corrective actions with stakeholders like Human Resources.
- Coordinate with Operations, Human Resources, and the Director of Workers Compensation to file workers compensation claims.
- Perform on-site audits and surveillances of safety program implementation.
- Conduct unannounced on-site audits and inspections to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Work with facilities to conduct risk assessments and hazard identification for new work.
- Establish metrics for incidents, near misses, and other KPIs to identify and mitigate negative trends.
- Support the activities of safety committees.
- Work with Operations leaders and support teams to promote a strong safety culture.
What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of related safety program leadership experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) for the duration of employment.
- Experience in SDS review, interpretation, and protective measure implementation.
- Basic knowledge of railcar repair processes and safety precautions.
- Ability to interpret and apply codes, standards, and specifications related to occupational health and safety.
- Must reside in the Houston, TX area and be able to travel to job sites in this region.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead by influence and by example.
- Able to accurately communicate technical information verbally and in writing.
- Able to effectively use electronic systems.
- Required to understand the Responsible Care Management System and actively participate in its outlined activities.
Nice to Have
- Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health and Safety or Engineering.
- Professional Safety certifications.

Work Mode
This is an onsite position. You must reside in and be able to work from the Houston, TX area, with travel required to regional job sites.
