Position Overview
The Regional Chancellor serves as the chief academic and executive leader for Penn State Hazleton, Scranton, and Wilkes-Barre. Reporting to the Vice President for Commonwealth Campuses and Executive Chancellor, this role holds primary responsibility for advancing teaching, research, and service across all three campuses. The Chancellor provides strategic vision and operational leadership, ensuring alignment with university-wide goals while responding to evolving regional needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead academic and administrative functions as chief executive of the three campuses
- Drive strategic planning, budget development, and resource management
- Support faculty and staff professional growth and organizational development
- Strengthen relationships with alumni, community partners, and regional stakeholders
- Advance philanthropic initiatives and fundraising efforts
- Participate in university leadership through membership in the Academic Leadership Council and Council of Campus Chancellors
- Oversee the planned conclusion of Penn State Wilkes-Barre operations by the end of the spring 2027 semester
- Lead expansion and development initiatives at Penn State Hazleton and Penn State Scranton
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a terminal degree and demonstrate substantial leadership experience in higher education. A strong commitment to student-centered learning, community engagement, and academic excellence is essential. Proven success in fundraising and institutional advancement is required.
Preferred candidates will have at least five years of academic administrative experience at a comprehensive institution, with expertise in strategic planning, personnel oversight, program development, and resource management. An entrepreneurial mindset, a distinguished scholarly record, and recognition as a leader in their field are highly valued.
Compensation and Benefits
This position offers eligibility for tenure consideration based on academic qualifications. The Chancellor will serve on university-wide leadership councils and engage in regional economic development through programs such as LaunchBox. Additional opportunities include participation in cocurricular programming, community outreach, and workforce development initiatives.
Work Mode
This is an onsite role with primary responsibilities distributed across the Hazleton, Scranton, and Wilkes-Barre campuses. While flexibility is considered, remote or hybrid arrangements are not guaranteed and require formal approval.
