3M is seeking a Quality Engineer to lead quality and process improvement efforts within a machine shop environment, supporting manufacturing operations and new product introductions for critical life safety products. You will play a key role in ensuring consistent quality and driving continuous improvement.
What You'll Do
- Perform and guide technical activities from approved quality programs to develop innovative applications.
- Establish a network of resources across laboratory, manufacturing, engineering, sales, and marketing to facilitate assignments.
- Participate in project planning, establish objectives, and identify quality improvement opportunities.
- Develop and implement complex quality systems and processes.
- Lead teams and projects, function as an effective team leader, and promote harmonious working relationships.
- Support OEE continuous improvement efforts with operators, technicians, and engineers.
- Support sustaining and new product introduction projects to deliver products and processes of consistent quality.
- Support manufacturing operations to ensure uninterrupted quality production.
- Document results, observations, and conclusions in technical notebooks and reports.
- Train, counsel, and guide technicians, technologists, and engineers.
- Lead Process and Quality Engineering Efforts using Lean, DMAIC, and CAPA Methodologies.
- Lead Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) activities for Manufacturing Quality and Customer Complaint issues.
- Actively participate in Internal and External Audits.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in a science, engineering (mechanical, chemical, industrial, statistics), or technical discipline.
- Five (5) years of combined experience in product, quality, engineering, or six sigma.
- Two (2) years of combined experience working in a machine shop (CNC lathes, mills, horizontal/vertical machining centers, secondary operations).
Nice to Have
- Master’s degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline.
- Prior experience as a quality engineer in life safety device or electronic device manufacturing.
- Knowledge of quality management systems such as Quality Manuals, ISO-9000, metrology, calibration, audits, PFMEA, Control Plans.
- Expertise in basic statistical tools such as exploratory data analysis, Gage R&R, ANOVA, Statistical Process Control.
- Certifications in quality engineering, auditing, or management (e.g., ASQ CQE, CQA, CSQP).
- Experience facilitating external audits for regulatory bodies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Minitab or similar statistical tools a plus.
- Self-motivated, ready to solve challenging problems.
- Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience with SAP.
