The Indiana Department of Correction and Madison State Hospital are seeking a Public Health Nurse Consultant. In this role, you will work for the Division of Trauma and Injury Prevention at the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH), coordinating regional trauma quality improvement efforts for the Central region. Your focus will be on improving trauma registry data quality, injury prevention, continuous quality improvement, and regional planning.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate community health care programs involving health departments, schools, clinics, childcare facilities, home health agencies, and rural health services to improve service quality.
- Collaborate with community physicians and health care professionals to improve reporting and communication between medical providers and state agency staff.
- Coordinate programs such as school health, migrant health, and health promotion and disease prevention for children and adults.
- Work with other health and social service providers to facilitate the delivery of health and development services.
- Review medical records and provide professional medical opinions and recommendations.
- Visit patients to assess medical needs, monitor for signs of distress, and develop recommendations to address concerns.
- Follow up with clients and patients to ensure recommendations are followed and medical needs are addressed.
- Act as a liaison between the state agency and community partners to facilitate communication and collaboration.
- Assist in developing diagnostic and treatment plans for clients and patients.
- May provide consultation on communicable disease control and screenings.
- Arrange and conduct in-service and continuing education programs.
- Analyze and report on relevant health data.
What We're Looking For
- An active Registered Nurse (RN) license within the state of Indiana.
Nice to Have
- Extensive knowledge of nursing practices and the consultant role in a specialized program area.
- Advanced knowledge of current developments in public health and in a special clinical area.
- Extensive knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations related to specialized program areas.
- Working knowledge of the operation of agencies receiving consultation, such as public schools, community organizations, and health agencies.
- Working knowledge of diseases and conditions which adversely affect health.
- Working knowledge of state and federal departments and agencies with programs affecting citizen health and welfare.
- Extensive knowledge of record keeping, problem identification, program planning, consultation methods, and research methods.
- Ability to present health care awareness and prevention programs to various community agencies.
- Ability to prepare accurate, detailed reports and excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with agency staff, the medical community, governmental agencies, and family members.
- Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Team & Environment
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs. You will report to the Trauma and Injury Prevention Clinical Director within the IDOH Division of Trauma and Injury Prevention.
