What You'll Do
- Engage directly with city officials, community leaders, and advocacy groups to support public safety initiatives aligned with organizational goals
- Represent the organization at city council meetings and public forums, delivering clear, impactful testimony and presentations
- Develop and maintain partnerships with grassroots and community-based organizations to strengthen local outreach
- Monitor and analyze local legislative activity to inform engagement strategies and policy positioning
- Amplify the voices of community members and customers to guide policy advocacy and public messaging
- Create and manage a consistent communication plan to keep stakeholders informed and engaged across the region
- Build credibility through transparent, bipartisan dialogue and thoughtful relationship development
- Collaborate with internal teams to align public affairs efforts with regional objectives and product understanding
Requirements
- Must be based in the Chicago, Illinois area with the ability to travel on short notice
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in fast-moving environments and adapt to evolving priorities
- Strong communication skills across diverse audiences—able to explain complex topics clearly in writing, speaking, and community settings
- Self-motivated with a proactive mindset and a track record of solving problems independently
- Comfortable working long or irregular hours when required by public meeting schedules
- Experience in public policy, government, or advocacy roles, or a related field with demonstrated impact
- Ability to navigate politically diverse environments and build coalitions across party lines
- Familiarity with local government structures and policymaking processes
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in technology or experience working with tech-driven public safety solutions
- Direct experience engaging with city executives, mayors, or council members in government, campaigns, or advocacy
- Established relationships with community organizations or influential leaders in the Illinois region
- Proven success managing external partnerships and community outreach initiatives
