Penn State seeks a Psychiatric Nurse (LPN) to join the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at University Park, starting August 10, 2026. This position plays a key role in supporting psychiatric providers and delivering direct patient care within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment. The role is 80% to 100% FTE, typically requiring 40 hours per week during the academic year with summers off.
What You'll Do
- Conduct medical assessments during intake, including obtaining vital signs and medical history.
- Meet with students for monitoring between their scheduled psychiatric appointments.
- Triage patient phone calls and messages.
- Provide psychoeducation to students.
- Communicate with pharmacies and insurance companies.
- Coordinate lab orders and results.
- Provide outreach to students for scheduling or administrative purposes.
- Assist with student-requested forms and documentation.
- Coordinate documentation with university and community stakeholders.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings, consultation, and professional development.
What We're Looking For
- General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or High School diploma.
- 4+ years of relevant experience for the Licensed Practical Nurse - Advanced Professional level.
- Licensed Practical Nurse license from the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
- Diploma in Practical Nursing from a Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing accredited organization.
- 2+ years of relevant experience for the Licensed Practical Nurse - Intermediate Professional level.
Nice to Have
- Ability to provide services to a wide range of students and work with a wide range of staff.
- Experience working in the mental health care field.
Team & Environment
You will work within the multidisciplinary team at CAPS, coordinating closely with offices such as Student Disability Resources, University Health Services, and community providers. All staff perform their duties while adhering to and promoting trauma-informed care and healing-centered approaches.
Benefits & Compensation
- Compensation range: $46,400.00 - $74,000.00 annually.
