SRG Global Mining Services is hiring a Senior Protection and Control Engineer to deliver expert secondary design engineering for substation projects. In this role, you will lead technical development, champion best practices, and drive quality outcomes for distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission assets.
What You'll Do
- Provide specialist engineering design and advice for terminal substations, industrial substations, and distributed generation network connections.
- Review and continuously improve processes and systems to ensure high productivity, efficiency, and quality.
- Monitor, review, and approve engineering solutions, proposals, and manufacturer-supplied drawings.
- Assist, develop, and implement new technologies and innovative design practices and standards.
- Develop ideas and initiatives to enhance the design team's capabilities and the company's competitive position.
- Define complex issues with ambiguous information, provide technical expertise and mentoring, and stimulate critical thinking.
- Synthesize various considerations to make tough decisions and push for better solutions.
- Develop technical-based policies and procedures relating to design and implement change as required.
- Assess Network Services capabilities, identify opportunities, and engage with the Design Leadership team.
What We're Looking For
- Ability to design within AutoCAD and deliver solutions to complex problems or large projects applying engineering principles.
- Detailed knowledge of new protection and control technologies such as IEC61850 and SCADA.
- Demonstrated experience in using complex numbers and symmetrical components for fault current analysis by hand and with software packages like DigSilent PowerFactory, PSSE, or Sincal.
- Detailed knowledge of regulatory requirements, OH&S Act, 'Safety in Design' guidelines, standards, and codes.
- Extensive design and protection settings experience in the electrical utility industry.
- Expert design and compliance knowledge of protection and control systems in electrical distribution and transmission networks.
- Extensive experience in specifying and configuring protection relays from major suppliers.
- Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) or equivalent qualification.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in Australia.
Nice to Have
- Around 10 years of experience in the power industry, including at least 2 years in a Senior Engineer capacity.
- Holding or working towards obtaining National Engineering Registration (NER).
- RPEQ (Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland) is highly regarded.
