The Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is looking for a Development Associate to play a crucial role in advancing its mission by managing aspects of its grant-related fundraising activities. This position reports directly to the Director of Development.
What You'll Do
- Help POGO meet its foundation revenue goals.
- Assist in preparing foundation materials, including proposals, letters of inquiry, grant reports, and acknowledgment letters.
- Research the giving interests of foundation funders and stay abreast of philanthropic trends.
- Help identify new opportunities for funding that align with POGO’s programs through prospect research.
- Maintain and update as needed a list of foundation prospects.
- Track grant requirements and deadlines between POGO and its funders.
- Assist with planning and executing quarterly meetings on the spend down of project-specific grants.
- Prepare quarterly program updates for the Board of Directors.
- Work with communications and editorial staff to create the annual report.
- Use program knowledge to aid in crafting solicitation letters for individuals three times a year.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum of 3 years of foundation relations experience or comparable work with foundations.
- Experience writing foundation grant proposals and reports, as well as reviewing budgets.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in the area of solicitations.
- Strong analytical and prospective research skills.
- Ability to adapt to circumstances, prioritize, and handle multiple deadlines on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
- Demonstrated track record of taking initiative to solve problems and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Demonstrated knowledge of foundations and grantmaking.
- Willingness to work on building relationships with law firms.
- Ability to deal with confidential information and/or issues using discretion and judgment.
- Commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Nice to Have
- Preference given to work carried out at a policy-oriented organization.
- Working understanding of the relationship between all three branches of government.
- Experience working with CRM databases.
Team & Environment
You will report directly to the Director of Development within a staff of over 50 employees.
