Leiden University is looking for a Professor of Psychology of Health and Society. You will provide research and educational direction for the field of health and illness in a societal context, acting as an academic leader within the Leiden Health domain from a social sciences perspective.
What You'll Do
- Develop and lead an integrated research program focused on health and society, grounded in medical psychology.
- Initiate interdisciplinary, data-intensive, and clinically oriented research and intervention projects, including e-health and personalized care.
- Strengthen strategic collaborations with various faculties within Leiden, the Health Campus Den Haag, LDE/Medical Delta, and regional care and policy networks, particularly in Zuid-Holland.
- Provide and innovate education at the bachelor's, master's, and PhD levels within health and medical psychology.
- Fulfill administrative and leadership roles within the Health, Medical, and Neuropsychology section, the institute, faculty, and university.
What We're Looking For
- Extensive administrative and leadership experience, with the ability to provide direction on complex strategic issues and serve as a figurehead for overarching themes and collaborations.
- A connecting leadership style that fosters an inclusive, reflective, and safe academic work environment, aligned with Open Science and Recognition & Appreciation principles.
- An internationally recognized research profile in health and/or medical psychology, with demonstrable expertise in biopsychosocial mechanisms in (chronic) somatic conditions.
- A strong publication record and proven ability to acquire substantial external research funding.
- Experience with and enthusiasm for leading interdisciplinary research programs and building sustainable (inter)national collaborative networks.
- Broad methodological expertise, such as longitudinal designs, experimental and intervention research, ambulatory measurements, e-health, and data-intensive approaches.
- Demonstrable teaching experience in bachelor's and master's education and successful supervision of PhD candidates.
- Possession of, or willingness to obtain within two years, the Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO) or its equivalent.
Team & Environment
The Institute of Psychology has approximately 5,000 students and 600 staff members. You will be embedded within the Health, Medical, and Neuropsychology (GMN) section of the Institute of Psychology, Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.

- Salary range: €7,202 - €10,441 gross per month for a full-time appointment (Professor 2).

Work Mode
