Emory Healthcare is hiring a Professional Coding Auditor to safeguard the accuracy, completeness, and compliance of professional coding services. In this role, you will review patient records and coded data to support precise billing, optimize reimbursement, and mitigate compliance risks within our healthcare system.
What You'll Do
- Conduct regular audits of medical coding to verify accuracy and compliance with ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and other relevant systems.
- Evaluate coding practices against payer guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
- Ensure adherence to federal and state regulations, including CMS guidelines and HIPAA standards.
- Identify and report discrepancies or violations, recommending corrective actions.
- Prepare detailed audit reports highlighting findings, trends, and recommendations for improvement.
- Document audit procedures, results, and any issues identified clearly and concisely.
- Keep up-to-date with changes in coding guidelines, healthcare regulations, and industry best practices.
- Attend relevant workshops, seminars, and continuing education courses as required.
- May provide training to healthcare professionals and analyze coding data.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of experience in a medical billing or coding office.
- A coding certification from a nationally recognized organization (AAPC, AHIMA, etc.): CCS-P, CPC, RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CPC-H.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and coding systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A thorough understanding of healthcare regulations.
- Excellent attention to detail.
Nice to Have
- Two years of post-secondary education in a business or medical field.
- Medical management experience.
- Previous work in medical coding, auditing, or chart review within a healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
