American Boa is looking for a Product Development Engineer to drive innovation in stainless steel bellows design for light and heavy vehicles. As the product owner, you will lead design, development, and validation efforts using hands-on testing, data analysis, and advanced engineering tools to create durable, high-performance components. You'll join a collaborative team where your ideas directly impact product performance, quality, and innovation.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate across engineering, quality, manufacturing, and program management to lead new product development from concept to launch.
- Use SolidWorks to design flex joints and related assemblies; apply GD&T and tolerance analysis for manufacturability.
- Create accurate 2D drawings, 3D models, and BOMs; manage design data in EPDM.
- Interpret customer data to drive design decisions; support APQP with prototypes and technical analysis.
- Identify opportunities to improve products, processes, and technologies.
- Lead durability testing of heavy- and light-vehicle stainless steel bellows for intake, exhaust, and on-engine applications.
- Plan and execute vehicle measurements at OEM proving grounds; manage data acquisition aligned with customer schedules.
- Design and implement custom test fixtures, ensuring all measurement equipment is calibrated and maintained.
- Analyze test data, assess risks, and provide clear, actionable feedback to internal teams and customers.
- Maintain DVP&R and DFMEA documents for all new products.
- Support continuous improvement of test methods, equipment, and product durability.
- Travel to customer sites for design reviews, technical presentations, and testing.
- Assist in lab testing: vibration, corrosion, fatigue, and root cause analysis.
- Contribute to benchmarking and R&D projects for new technologies.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Self-driven, organized, and detail oriented.
- Ability to present to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- CAD/CAE proficiency, particularly with SolidWorks.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally.
Nice to Have
- 2–3 years SolidWorks experience with parametric or automated design.
- Experience with FMEA, DVP&R, PPAP, GD&T, and Design for Manufacturability.
- Knowledge of welding, metal forming, fatigue, NVH, and vehicle powertrain.
- Familiarity with EPDM, SAP, and statistical failure analysis.
