Careers at Optimum is hiring a Freelance Producer for News 12. In this role, you will assist in broadcasting live daily news programming, requiring creativity, composure under pressure, and the ability to meet tight deadlines as part of a small, highly collaborative team.
What You'll Do
- Organize strong, compelling, and audience-driven newscasts.
- Write teases, segment intros, news readers, and guest segments.
- Recognize stories with high potential for provocative, compelling television.
- Develop story ideas, research topics, and plan segments.
- Attend all editorial meetings for your show and larger team meetings throughout the week.
- Write scripts for live programming and conduct pre-interviews for guest segments.
- Build show graphics and elements in rundown software.
- Be ready to break in and assist with the latest news or developing stories.
- Collaborate effectively and understand the vision necessary for a successful newscast.
- Find creative ways to produce and deliver content to viewers.
- Conduct pre-show checks to correct any errors before going live.
- Work on special projects or series as needed for your show.
- Coordinate with multiple departments to meet deliverable deadlines and expectations.
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of live broadcast and control room experience.
- Proven experience in live production.
- Excellent research and writing skills.
- Strong grammar, copy editing, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with ENPS or a similar rundown program.
- Working knowledge of production and post-production techniques.
- Familiarity with SEO, RSS, Twitter, Facebook, and other social media.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines.

- Compensation range: $52,547.00 - $86,327.00 per year.
