At Bizee, we champion the everyday entrepreneur. We're looking for a Principal Software Engineer to serve as our most senior individual contributor. This is a hands-on builder role where you'll spend 70%+ of your time writing production code, designing systems, and raising the engineering bar across product and platform domains.
What You'll Do
- Lead solution design for highest-complexity initiatives across product and platform domains, owning the intercept point where product needs and platform capabilities meet.
- Design and ship AI-powered features into production (intelligent recommendations, automated compliance, predictive lifecycle) that demonstrate real customer value.
- Own and deliver critical platform modernization efforts spanning service decomposition, event-driven architecture, and data migration, designing for intelligence from the start.
- Establish and enforce coding standards, review guidelines, and architectural patterns across all engineering teams, measurably improving code review cycle time and defect escape rate.
- Serve as connective tissue between product and platform engineering, ensuring shared services, APIs, and data contracts are designed for reuse across channels and preventing architectural drift.
- Directly mentor Technical Leads across domains on architecture, engineering craft, and AI-native development practices, with at least 2 Tech Leads showing measurable growth.
- Serve as senior escalation point for P1/P2 production incidents across engineering, aiming to reduce mean time to resolution by 40%.
What We're Looking For
- Built and shipped AI-powered features or products in production, understanding full lifecycle from model selection/prompt engineering to deployment/monitoring.
- Write production code daily and can review complex PRs, identify architectural risk, and suggest better approaches with concrete implementation.
- Strong full-stack fluency across backend and frontend, understanding APIs, event-driven architecture, and data flow through complex systems.
- Designed and shipped systems serving significant traffic, understanding tradeoffs between approaches and when to invest in abstraction vs. pragmatic solutions.
- Move comfortably between product delivery and platform infrastructure, ensuring both evolve in lockstep.
- Personally use AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) and can demonstrate measurable productivity gains with developed workflows/patterns.
- Raise the bar through code reviews, design sessions, and pairing, influencing through craft rather than title.
Nice to Have
- Experience walking through a shipped AI-powered product including what worked, what didn't, and lessons learned about designing for AI from day one.
- Recent commits, PRs, or open-source contributions from last 6 months demonstrating craft.
- Strong opinion backed by experience on how AI changes software system design and building.
- Demonstration of specific AI-assisted development workflow that multiplied output.
- Experience working across product and infrastructure domains, articulating navigation of tension between speed-to-market and platform investment.
- Experience in Prosumer or SMB space with understanding of small business owner psychology.
- Background in e-commerce, legal tech, fintech, or compliance-heavy industries with multi-state regulatory complexity.
Team & Environment
You'll work across our ~50 person engineering organization, spanning product squads, core platform, and shared infrastructure. You'll report to an Engineering Manager and work closely with the Head of Platform, Product and Engineering Managers on cross-domain architecture decisions.
