CloudLinux is looking for a Principal Engineer to blend deep technical execution with product ownership for our automation tooling. In this worldwide remote role, you will build services and automation while directly owning the roadmap for patch-processing tools, prioritizing by impact, risk, and effort. You will partner closely with engineering and operations stakeholders to translate business needs into shippable deliverables.
What You'll Do
- Write production Python code for services, CLI tools, and automation.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines on GitLab.
- Prototype quickly and turn successful experiments into production-ready solutions.
- Improve system reliability and operability through logging, metrics, monitoring, and alerting.
- Actively use modern AI tools daily to accelerate coding, refactoring, debugging, testing, and documentation.
- Own the vision and roadmap for ELS Automation tools, prioritizing by impact, risk, and effort.
- Translate business needs into concrete deliverables, including plans, user stories, acceptance criteria, and success metrics.
- Serve as the primary stakeholder interface, aligning requirements across engineering, release, and operations while communicating trade-offs.
- Drive outcomes by coordinating incident responses when needed, conducting post-mortems, and implementing continuous improvements.
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with recent daily Python coding.
- Strong expertise with GitLab CI or GitHub workflows, including runners and pipelines.
- Solid Linux fundamentals (shell, processes, networking, packaging).
- Comfortable implementing observability with logs, metrics, monitoring, and alerting.
- Advanced daily use of LLM/AI tools to speed up coding, refactoring, debugging, and testing, with a practice of validating outputs to production quality.
- A product ownership mindset: ability to own a tool end-to-end, build and prioritize a roadmap, and translate ambiguous requirements into deliverables.
- Comfort working in a fast-changing, high-ambiguity environment, able to iterate quickly and adapt priorities.
- Startup and/or 'builder' experience, having shipped personal projects or worked in a startup-like setting with end-to-end responsibility.
- Strong English communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
