As the Principal CPA, Director of Tax, you will lead all aspects of tax strategy and client advisory in a fully remote setting. You’ll manage client relationships directly, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and long-term trust while delivering tailored tax planning for both individuals and businesses. Your role is central to maintaining high standards across deliverables and shaping the direction of the tax team.
What You'll Do
- Oversee the preparation and review of individual and corporate tax returns with a focus on accuracy and strategic insight
- Develop tax projections, model financial scenarios, and deliver forward-looking planning recommendations
- Lead a team of tax professionals, providing mentorship, setting performance benchmarks, and refining workflows
- Respond to tax notices and inquiries from clients and agencies, covering income, payroll, and other tax types
- Advise on entity structuring, retirement planning, compensation models, and incentive programs with tax efficiency in mind
- Support clients in navigating government programs and grant opportunities related to tax and compliance
- Use data to guide decisions, tracking KPIs and improving processes across the tax function
Requirements
- Must be a licensed CPA with at least 8 years of experience, primarily in public accounting
- Proven track record managing diverse client portfolios and leading teams remotely
- Strong technical foundation in federal, state, and payroll tax compliance
- Experience with cloud-based accounting platforms such as Xero, QBO, Sage, or NetSuite
- Familiarity with major tax preparation software and digital practice management tools
- Exceptional attention to detail, communication skills, and client-first mindset
- Ability to proactively manage deadlines, workflows, and sensitive client data
- Comfortable working independently in a distributed, technology-driven environment
