Washington University in St Louis is hiring a Pre-Certification Coordinator for its Department of Medicine Business Office. You will perform professional services to ensure medical and diagnostic procedures are accomplished efficiently and reimbursement is maximized through interaction with third-party payers. This position is performed remotely.
What You'll Do
- Initiate and facilitate the pre-determination process.
- Contact insurance companies for benefit verification and pre-certification of surgical and nonsurgical procedures.
- Notify financial counselors for pre-payment of un-coded services.
- Supply all required documentation to insurance companies during the pre-certification process.
- Maintain the daily surgery and procedure schedule for department faculty.
- Maintain open communication with physicians and their assistants regarding schedules.
- Maintain a written log of all pre-certifications in process.
- Notify the hospital utilization and billing department of pre-certifications.
- Document when pre-certification is received from insurance companies.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent high school certification, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- 2 years of work experience in a medical office setting.
Nice to Have
- Associate degree.
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification from AAPC or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification from AHIMA.
- Skills in communication, external and internal customer service, insurance, interpersonal communication, managed care, medical insurance coding, organizing, and third-party payers.

- Compensation: $20.57 - $30.84 per hour.
