Monzo is looking for a Platform Engineer to join the Platform Collective, specifically the Infrastructure Platform team, to build and maintain the foundational infrastructure and tools that enable Monzo’s engineering teams to succeed. You’ll work across Kubernetes, AWS, GCP, and Terraform to support Monzo’s growth from 10 to 20 million customers and lay the groundwork for global expansion.
What You'll Do
- Enhancing and maintaining foundational tools and systems for Monzo's core infrastructure and application platform
- Working hands-on with Kubernetes clusters, AWS infrastructure, and configuration management using Terraform
- Integrating and managing open-source components to provide robust, scalable primitives for engineering teams
- Designing and implementing backend services (APIs, controllers, etc.) that simplify infrastructure for other engineers
- Developing software for complex projects such as infrastructure migrations, high-scale traffic management, or security tooling
- Building and centrally managing cloud infrastructure running components like Kubernetes and Envoy across AWS and GCP
- Helping other platform teams succeed by abstracting infrastructure complexity and enabling them to focus on customer problems
What We're Looking For
- Significant professional experience in software engineering
- Demonstrated ability to write, test, and deploy robust backend services using strongly typed languages
- Hands-on experience working with AWS and/or GCP
- Proficiency with Kubernetes
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform)
- Strong problem-solving skills with a natural inclination toward automation
- Deep curiosity about systems and how modern distributed applications fail and scale
- Excitement about building a platform that enables success for everyone at Monzo, with a focus on reliability, performance, and developer experience
- Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with ambiguity and evolving requirements

- Base salary of £95,000 - £130,000
