General Dynamics NASSCO is looking for a Planner to join our Planning department in Norfolk, Virginia. You will be responsible for providing accurate work specifications and change orders for ship repair and maintenance, using Work Notifications, technical documents, and government guidelines to ensure project success.
What You'll Do
- Develop, issue, and distribute assigned planning documents, procedures, and work items in accordance with all applicable instructions and procedures.
- Conduct ship-checks as required to gather information and verify conditions.
- Create Navy Maintenance Database (NMD) availabilities and Work Specification Items.
- Integrate, review, and validate the planning process with primary parties and government affiliations on a weekly basis to ensure compliance.
- Prepare advanced planning reports for dissemination to the government for processing.
- Conduct meetings to inform key personnel of planning updates and changes.
- Work closely with Estimators and Schedulers to ensure all information is represented appropriately to produce an integrated planning schedule.
What We're Looking For
- Typically requires a BA/BS in a related field, or an AA/AS plus two (2) years of directly related experience, or six (6) years of directly related experience.
- A working knowledge of the Navy Maintenance Database (NMD) Planning and Execution Modules is required.
- Ability to read and review drawings, blueprints, standard items, and specifications of work items.
- Shipboard familiarization and the ability to perform ship-checks.
- Must hold an active Secret clearance.
- Familiarity with working in a navy ship repair environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- Expert ability to effectively communicate with other disciplines and resolve planning conflicts.
- Willingness to travel and possession of reliable transportation.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and maintain a security clearance.
- A reliable record of attendance and punctuality and availability for overtime as required.
- Ability to physically transit all areas of the facility, including aboard marine vessels and drydock, climbing ladders, and working in tanks and confined spaces while wearing personal protective equipment.
- Good eye/hand coordination.

This role reports to the Planning Manager and interfaces with Trades, Production Management, Estimating, Scheduling, Supply Chain Management, Contracts, and the customer.
