Vaughan Regional Medical Center, part of ScionHealth, is looking for a Phlebotomist to join our team. Under the direction of the Area Laboratory Director or Lab Manager, you will assume responsibility for performing venipunctures and related clinical specimen collection tasks, as well as essential laboratory clerical duties.
What You'll Do
- Collect blood specimens from patients via venipuncture and skin puncture according to physician orders and established procedures.
- Explain collection procedures and provide general testing information to facilitate patient understanding and reduce anxiety.
- Label and record all test tubes, log procedures, and file paperwork.
- Clean and supply venipuncture trays, maintain work areas, and order supplies as needed.
- Utilize the laboratory information system to document specimen collection, receipt, create manifests, and perform other functions.
- Perform clerical work and assist in laboratory functions as delegated by the Laboratory Manager or Director.
What We're Looking For
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Formal Phlebotomy training as required by state.
- State license or registration as required by state.
- Current BLS certification required.
- Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
- Must have good and regular attendance.
- Knowledgeable about which color top tube to use and the volume of blood needed for specific test requirements.
- Basic computer knowledge required.
Nice to Have
- Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy certification.
- Six (6) months acute care phlebotomy experience or one (1) year experience as a medical assistant performing venipuncture, or one (1) year outpatient lab experience.
