The Swiss Federal Administration is hiring a PhD candidate to join a research initiative focused on applying machine learning to sustainable grassland management. This role contributes to our mission of fostering more sustainable use of natural resources through interdisciplinary collaboration.
What You'll Do
- Develop new approaches for better understanding and more sustainable management of grassland systems at the landscape level.
- Analyze remote sensing data, including satellite data and time series, using machine learning methods.
- Integrate remote sensing and environmental data to analyze the effects of climate change and land use on grassland systems in Switzerland.
- Write scientific publications and present results at (inter)national conferences.
- Contribute to the further development of the Swiss platform for soil monitoring and agroecosystem analysis.
What We're Looking For
- A university degree (master's or equivalent) in environmental engineering, computer science, geography, remote sensing, environmental systems science, or a related discipline.
- Excellent programming skills, ideally in Python, and proven experience in machine learning.
- A structured, enthusiastic, and solution-oriented working method, with interest in teamwork and interdisciplinary exchange.
- Knowledge of two official Swiss languages and English.

- A great interest in practical issues related to agriculture, ecophysiology, or geography.
