About the Role

Allina Health System is looking for a Pharmacy Intern to play a crucial role in patient care and medication safety. You will gain hands-on experience in dispensing, clinical reviews, and pharmacy operations while working under the supervision of licensed pharmacists. Your work in medication reconciliation, compounding, and inventory management will have a direct impact on patient well-being.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare, check, and dispense medications, including first doses and refill floor stock.
  • Perform medication distribution, deliver medications and IVs, and fill automated dispensing cabinets.
  • Compound and document extemporaneous doses, IV admixtures, syringes, and prepackage solid and liquid dosage forms.
  • Perform admission medication histories and conduct medication reconciliation interviews with patients.
  • Audit automated dispensing cabinet medications and restock medications for crash carts and emergency kits.
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, and inventory management processes.
  • Review clinical data on patient profiles for clinical appropriateness and perform first or second checks for accuracy.
  • Communicate with the overseeing pharmacist regarding reconciliation and recommendations.
  • Provide clinical and informational services to patients, medical staff, and other healthcare professionals.

What We're Looking For

  • Must be 18 years of age with the education and/or experience needed to meet required functional competencies.
  • Enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy working towards a Pharmacist degree or a foreign-trained pharmacist working towards state Pharmacist licensure.
  • Pharmacy Intern Certification/Registration upon hire required.
  • If a registered Pharmacy Technician, Pharmacy Intern Certification/Registration must be obtained within 1 year of hire.

Nice to Have

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of one year at an accredited College of Pharmacy or 0 to 2 years of experience in a pharmacy.

Team & Environment

You will work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, providing assistance and support to pharmacists and technicians.
