MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Per Diem Radiation Therapist to play a vital role in delivering precision radiation therapy to cancer patients. You will provide skilled work involving the administration of a prescribed course of radiation therapy, maintaining treatment records and monitoring patients.
What You'll Do
- Administer safe and accurate radiation therapy treatment.
- Ensure accurate treatment delivery and data capture, demonstrating sound clinical judgment.
- Gather necessary set-up aids and prepare room and equipment for the patient.
- Maintain appropriate treatment and simulation records and data.
- Operate and manipulate the mechanical motions of complex radiation-emitting treatment units.
- Adapt to changes in work schedule or assigned area as departmental patient load dictates.
- Visually monitor patients for unusual reactions and events and report to the radiation oncologist.
- Explain treatment procedures to patients, answer questions, and refer patients to other allied health specialists.
- Perform and maintain Quality Assurance activities, complying with departmental practices.
- Visually ascertain that consent forms for radiation therapy are in the treatment record and signed.
- Monitor and maintain daily treatment records and machine QA.
- Verbally notify physics or engineering if measurements do not fall into accepted parameters.
- Check prescriptions, set-up instructions, new start procedures, and patient information.
- Attend planning clinic as assigned.
- Perform, monitor, and maintain mandatory quality control activities and documentation.
- Maintain Competency Management, ensuring appropriate clinical skills are learned and maintained.
- Maintain departmentally identified base competencies, inclusive of performing calculations.
- Accurately document and maintain competency assessment criteria.
- Facilitate learning by attending lectures, seminars, and in-services.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and professional behaviors.
- Participate in clinical instruction, evaluation, practitioner/student education, and assessment.
- Participate in departmental and institutional learning initiatives and in-services.
