WelbeHealth is seeking a People Specialist, Leaves to ensure a cohesive, caring experience for team members navigating a leave of absence. In this role, you will act as the primary point of contact for our leave, accommodation, and workers compensation programs, blending compliance expertise with a commitment to employee well-being.
What You'll Do
- Act as the primary point of contact between the company and leave, accommodation, and workers compensation programs to support timely and compliant workplace accommodations.
- Serve as the main internal resource for employees and managers regarding workers compensation, leave, and accommodation processes.
- Partner with People Advisors and leaders to conduct interactive process conversations and implement accommodations.
- Provide employee relations perspective on complex leave and accommodation issues intersecting with performance, conduct, or attendance.
- Work directly with the accommodations management vendor to review and adjudicate requests, leading the interactive process with employees.
- Generate reports and maintain accurate leave records for payroll, benefits continuation, and compliance.
- Create and maintain communications on leave for various internal channels and audiences.
- Work closely with the workers compensation carrier to oversee claim handling and resolution.
- Serve as a backup program manager and subject matter expert for programs like FMLA, parental leave, and other paid/unpaid time off.
- Provide guidance with empathy, ensuring employees understand their options and feel supported.
- Collaborate with other People Team members and departments on end-to-end process and experience design.
- Recommend and refine the leave process, experience, and communications to positively impact the employee experience.
- Coordinate reentry processes to ease transitions back to work and ensure positive reintegration.
- Create and deliver education on leave for supervisors, People Advisors, and team members.
- Monitor trends in leave utilization and recommend policy and process enhancements.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local leave regulations, including FMLA and ADA.
- Prepare reports and analytics on leave metrics to support workforce planning and strategy.
- Maintain complete and accurate records of leave and accommodation requests in accordance with legal requirements.
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of experience in US disability/leave administration or HR Compliance.
- Deep understanding and application of federal and state disability and paid family leave laws (e.g., ADA, FMLA, PFWA, CFRA) in a multi-state environment.
- Familiarity with California statutory leave and disability programs.
- Ability to work independently, exercise discretion, handle conflict, and be firm when required.
- Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze complex questions and determine the best course of action.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively.
Nice to Have
- Experience administering a workers compensation plan and managing claims.
Team & Environment
You will work closely with other Leave Specialists and a third-party administrator for leave administration. This role is part of a team dedicated to managing and administering all aspects of employee leave programs, reporting to the Director of Policy & Integrity as of January 2026.
