Access Services is hiring a Peer Support/Teen Talk Line Internship: Summer/Fall 2026/Spring 2027

What You'll Do

Provide compassionate, confidential support by responding to calls and text messages from individuals across Montgomery County, including a dedicated focus on teens through the Teen Talk Line. You’ll engage in meaningful conversations, practice active listening, and help callers feel heard and understood during evening shifts. Maintain accurate daily records and keep your supervisor informed about relevant interactions and developments.

When appropriate, assist individuals exploring recovery paths or developing wellness plans. Uphold a consistent presence through reliable attendance and professional conduct, representing the values of the organization in every interaction. Your role will operate primarily during evening hours, with scheduling flexibility built around a weekly commitment of 15–20 hours.

Requirements

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program. Personal experience with mental health challenges is required, as it informs empathetic engagement with callers. You must demonstrate clear, respectful communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Reliable transportation is essential: you must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license held for at least two years (excluding permit time), maintain an insured and registered vehicle with valid inspection, and have a clean driving record free of serious violations in the past three years. Standard clearances are required, including FBI, PA Criminal, Child Abuse, DMV driving history, and a physical examination.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates pursuing a Master’s degree are given preference for this role.

Benefits

This unpaid internship offers direct, one-on-one experience supporting individuals in emotional distress, helping you build foundational skills in peer support and engagement. You’ll gain in-office exposure to mental health services and may contribute to creative initiatives based on interest and call volume. This role is designed to support your growth in a community-focused, client-centered environment.
