GE HealthCare is hiring a PCS Field Engineer Apprentice (Austin, TX; Houston, TX)

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues with patient care equipment in hospital settings.
  • Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance on specified medical devices.
  • Carry out safety and environmental assessments in alignment with federal and organizational standards.
  • Document all service and repair activities according to institutional and company guidelines.
  • Maintain regular communication with healthcare staff to confirm issue resolution and follow-up actions.
  • Handle, maintain, and calibrate tools and testing instruments properly.
  • Stay current with industry standards, codes, and best practices for medical device operation and safety.
  • Collaborate with senior technicians on complex repairs and contribute to local team service goals.
  • Complete mandatory quality and compliance training within required timeframes.
  • Report any quality or compliance issues to the designated quality department without delay.
  • Follow all policies outlined in the Quality Manual, Quality Management System, and related regulatory requirements.

  • Applicant must be physically capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 35 pounds unassisted and must frequently bend, stoop, twist, climb, crouch, squat, kneel, crawl, sit, and stand for extended durations. The role requires reaching at, above, and below shoulder level, neck flexion and extension, and fine motor skills with hands and fingers. Vision requirements include color discrimination, close and distance acuity, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Candidate must pass a post-offer drug screening and standard background check. Ongoing compliance with customer access rules is required, including providing proof of immunizations and undergoing additional drug or background checks, which may include federal clearance if supporting government contracts.
  • Relocation beyond 30 miles from current location is not permitted without prior manager approval.
