Boston Medical Center (BMC) was looking for a Patient Service Representative (Remote)

BMC is looking for a Patient Service Representative to join our team in a permanently remote role. You will provide essential support by managing communications for up to 6 BMC ambulatory practices, ensuring patients receive timely and empathetic service.

What You'll Do

  • Handle inbound and outbound communications via phone calls, online chats, emails, faxes, or mail.
  • Answer and resolve patient inquiries professionally using effective listening and communication skills.
  • Schedule and reschedule appointments using a computerized system, determining appropriate time needed.
  • Update patient records accurately in Epic and provide detailed appointment confirmations.
  • Follow established practice guidelines and escalate matters outside of protocols as needed.
  • Verify insurance, manage authorizations, and follow up on medication reconciliation and refills.
  • Attend scheduled training sessions for systems, customer service, and new practices.
  • Assist in training new personnel and participate in staff meetings to identify improvements.
  • Adapt to departmental changes, assist team members, and conform to hospital standards.

What We're Looking For

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Ability to explain complicated healthcare issues to patients with empathy and concern.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to work in a diverse team environment.
  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written) for phone, email, and other communications.
  • Comfort using multiple advanced communication tools (phone, chat, email, fax, mail).
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Internet Explorer, MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to document work professionally and efficiently.
  • Must provide a stable internet connection and have a quiet, secure home workspace free from interruptions.

Team & Environment

Part of the Ambulatory Call Center department, reporting to a Manager and/or Supervisor.
