Duke University's Patient Revenue Management Organization (PRMO) is hiring a Patient Service Associate to coordinate the daily clinic preparation process and ensure a seamless patient experience. You will be central to patient identification, check-in/out, charge posting, cash management, and appointment scheduling.
What You'll Do
- Prepare for clinic visits by reviewing next-day patients and completing preparation activities.
- Check-in patients upon arrival, verify demographic data, and educate patients on required forms.
- Collect and post co-payments and account balances.
- Manage patient charts, file documentation, and return medical records.
- Prepare, audit, and batch encounter forms for completeness and accuracy.
- Schedule patient appointments, tests, and procedures.
- Answer telephones, take messages, and report medical information accurately and timely.
- Explain billing policies to patients and coordinate lab or ancillary service requests.
What We're Looking For
- High school education with knowledge of basic grammar and math.
- Minimum of one year of work experience in patient or public service, preferably in healthcare.
- Experience coordinating multiple tasks effectively.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic PC and data entry skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and professional telephone etiquette.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, provide clear instructions, and interact tactfully with customers.
- Ability to apply specific departmental policies related to patient verification, payment collection, and record maintenance.
