About the Role
The technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing the physical fiber network located outside central facilities, ensuring consistent service quality and rapid resolution of outages.
Responsibilities
- Inspect fiber optic lines and supporting structures regularly
- Locate and repair cable faults in underground and aerial environments
- Respond to service disruption alerts and restore connectivity
- Use test equipment to verify signal strength and network performance
- Document repair activities and update maintenance records
- Install splice enclosures and protect exposed connections
- Climb poles and access elevated equipment safely
- Operate trenching and boring equipment when needed
- Follow safety protocols for working near power lines
- Coordinate with dispatch and field supervisors during outages
- Maintain accurate logs of materials used and work completed
- Identify risks to network infrastructure and report hazards
- Support new installations by verifying existing plant conditions
- Perform fiber splicing using fusion methods
- Assist in locating underground utilities before excavation
- Adhere to environmental regulations during field work
- Work in all weather conditions as required
- Ensure compliance with federal and local telecom standards
- Transport tools and equipment to various job sites
- Communicate clearly with team members and customers on site
- Respond to emergency calls outside regular hours
- Utilize GPS and mapping tools for asset tracking
- Participate in on-call rotation schedules
- Follow lockout/tagout procedures during repairs
- Conduct visual assessments of poles, conduits, and pedestals
