Washington University in St. Louis is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to provide essential administrative and technical support within our Ophthalmology department. This remote role involves maintaining patient records, assisting with clinical procedures, and ensuring a smooth patient experience for our community.
What You'll Do
- Maintain patient records and schedule appointments using IDX.
- Answer phones, greet patients, verify billing information, and prepare charts for office visits.
- Assist with the clinical workup of patients, including visual acuity, applanation pressures, keratometry, autorefraction, and other diagnostic tests.
- Instruct patients in the proper care, insertion, and removal of contact lenses, modifying and polishing contacts as needed.
- Maintain inventory of materials, clean instruments, and ensure examination rooms and supplies are properly stocked.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent certification, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Valid Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (online-only certifications without skills assessment are not sufficient).
- 2 years of experience working in a medical office setting.
Nice to Have
- Skills in communication, computer literacy, medical terminology, organizational savvy, and patient care.
