On-Call IT Field Technician – Cedar Rapids, IA
We're looking for a skilled IT technician to deliver reliable, on-site technical support for clients across Cedar Rapids and nearby communities. This is a flexible, independent contractor position ideal for someone with strong experience in computer repair, networking, and customer-facing service.
What You'll Do
- Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues on Windows and macOS devices
- Fix wireless and wired network problems, including router configuration and WiFi optimization
- Set up and troubleshoot printers, scanners, and peripheral devices
- Install and terminate Cat5e and Cat6 network cabling for residential and small business clients
- Mount TVs outdoors and perform basic audiovisual system setup
- Support point-of-sale (POS) systems, including installation and configuration
- Reimage systems using bootable recovery tools and reinstall operating systems as needed
- Keep clear, professional records of service and maintain open communication with customers
Requirements
- Proven experience with desktop and laptop repair
- Familiarity with networking hardware and cabling standards
- Ability to lift and position TVs and equipment safely
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills
Work Environment
This role operates locally with flexible availability—you choose which jobs to accept based on your schedule and preferred service radius. There are no guaranteed hours, making it ideal for those seeking on-call work. Service locations include homes and small businesses in Cedar Rapids and select U.S. cities.
Compensation
Earn $35 per hour for on-site work. As an independent contractor, you set your availability and workload.
