Children's National Hospital, part of the Cancer & Immunology Research Center, is seeking a Nurse Scientist. In this pivotal role, you will conduct research to advance the mission of Nursing and Patient Care Services, the Department of Nursing Research, and Children's National. You will direct and advise teams to implement evidence-based practices that enhance patient care quality, while administering research policies and procedures.
What You'll Do
- Provide leadership for integrating research findings into clinical, quality, and management decision-making.
- Offer education, consultation, and mentorship for evidence-based practice, research, and nursing quality initiatives.
- Design and conduct research and evaluation studies relevant to pediatric nursing and child/family healthcare.
- Maintain an active, vibrant research program and identify sources of funding to submit successful grant applications.
- Develop and direct grant/project budgets, and train and evaluate research project personnel.
- Disseminate findings via publications and presentations, and translate research into bedside practice.
- Develop collaborative research partnerships within Children's National and at local, regional, and national levels.
- Promote research, a spirit of inquiry, and scholarship through education and mentorship across the organization.
- Role model the value of research, evidence-based practice, and quality in the clinical environment.
- Precept graduate students conducting research studies and projects in the clinical setting.
- Present and publish findings in local, state, national, and international venues.
- Participate in professional organizations and conduct peer review of hospital-based nursing research proposals.
- Ensure knowledge of and compliance with federal, state, local, and Institutional Review Board regulations.
- Ensure ethical conduct of research, including participant protection, and uphold all related policies and procedures.
- Oversee staff in preparing required research documents and act as an expert resource to support patient care and organizational initiatives.
What We're Looking For
- A Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Nursing.
- 5+ years of nursing experience.
- A current Registered Nurse license in the District of Columbia.
- Successful completion of hospital and nursing orientation at Children's National.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including in grant writing, publications, and professional presentations.
- Ability to develop and oversee evidence-based practice, performance improvement, research, and grant projects and budgets.
- Eligibility for a graduate faculty appointment at George Washington University and/or other area universities.
- Expertise in conducting performance improvement, research, research utilization, or knowledge development activities.
- Knowledge of health care trends and research priorities at national, regional, and local levels.
