Cloudflare is hiring a Network Deployment Engineer - Data Center Operations

About the Role

Cloudflare is hiring a Network Deployment Engineer to focus on the build out and expansion of our global network. In this role on the Data Center Operations team, you will plan and execute network expansion, develop processes and tools, and work with internal teams and external vendors to implement new technology and automation solutions.

What You'll Do

  • Provision, monitor, and maintain hardware, software, and network in new Cloudflare data centers.
  • Perform server administration tasks remotely using IPMI/BMC tools, including provisioning, monitoring, troubleshooting, and firmware updates.
  • Perform network configuration tasks for green field deployments and brown field migrations.
  • Manage remote contractors to complete datacenter installations and upgrades (rack and stack) across 700+ growing locations.
  • Introduce automation solutions to improve the deployment and maintenance of global infrastructure.
  • Plan and implement network and server installations, including facility power, cooling, security, rack layout, and cable management.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance during deployment activities.
  • Create and maintain documentation, plans, SOPs, and MOPs.
  • Collaborate with internal teams like Infrastructure Engineering, Network Engineering, and SRE.
  • Coordinate the installation of cross-connects globally in support of physical network expansion.
  • Assist with defining, documenting, and implementing consistent processes and standardization across all regions.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Data Center Operations, Site Reliability Engineering, Linux Systems Administration, Network Engineering, and/or DevOps.
  • Familiarity with day-to-day tasks and projects common in Data Center Operations.
  • Experience with optical transport technologies such as CWDM/DWDM.
  • Configuration management tool experience like Saltstack, Chef, Puppet, or Ansible.
  • Knowledge of Network Protocols, Topologies, and Enterprise architecture.
  • Experience writing network configuration and design documentation.
  • Experience with network and server installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with remote “lights-out” and out-of-band access to data center resources (IPMI/BMC).
  • Experience solving problems through automation.
  • Experience running and improving operational processes in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and interpersonal skills.

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, or a related field.
  • Direct experience executing on datacenter / infrastructure projects with many moving parts.
  • Experience installing/maintaining datacenter infrastructure and DCIM tools.
  • Understanding of BGP and anycast routing.
  • Working knowledge of Juniper Junos, Cisco IOS, Cisco NX-OS, and Arista EOS.
  • Proficient in one or more programming languages and willing to learn new ones.
  • Ability to write scripts for internal tools.
  • Proven ability to learn fast and execute on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to manage MS Excel and Google spreadsheets.
  • Comfortable handling basic program management responsibilities (prioritization, planning, scheduling, status reporting) such as JIRA.
  • Experience managing remote contractors.
  • Multi-lingual; experience working with infrastructure in multiple countries.
  • Professional level network certification(s) (JNCIP, CCNP, etc) or higher.
  • Linux certifications.
  • Experience with continuous / rapid deployment.
  • Experience working in a 24/7/365 mission-critical service environment.
  • Knowledge of the OSI-model and experience isolating network, hardware and software issues.
