We are seeking a Senior Manager, Backend Engineering to lead comprehensive re-platforming of core backend services while maintaining uninterrupted production system operations. This is a hands-on technical leadership role involving team management, mentorship, and driving design implementations for high-scale, high-availability systems.
The Senior Manager will guide modernization of APIs and microservices powering transactional video-on-demand, electronic sell-through, personalization, search, and payment infrastructures while preserving legacy service stability.
Key Responsibilities
Hands-On Technical Leadership
- Serve as technical lead providing guidance in Java development
- High-performance service design
- Database schema and distributed data management
- Microservices and API platform architecture
- Participate in architectural and code reviews
- Collaborate with Product Management to align technical solutions
Re-platforming & Modernization
- Lead backend service re-architecture to cloud-native infrastructure
- Define technical roadmap for evolving legacy systems
- Balance operational stability with modernization objectives
Business Continuity & Reliability
- Ensure 24/7 availability and performance during re-platforming
- Maintain strict SLAs across millions of users
- Implement best practices for rollback and phased transitions
Team Leadership & Development
- Manage and mentor high-performing engineering team
- Drive resilience and continuous improvement culture
- Establish clear ownership boundaries
Strategic Impact
- Create KPI dashboards measuring re-platforming progress
- Align backend evolution with organizational goals
- Influence long-term architectural direction
Qualifications
- 8+ years backend engineering experience
- 3+ years management experience
- Proven success leading large-scale modernization initiatives
- Deep expertise in Java, distributed systems, microservices
- Strong database and systems architecture background
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills
- BS/MS in Computer Science
