General Motors is hiring a Motion Systems Group Manager to lead the team responsible for the full motion language of GM’s in-vehicle ecosystem. This role defines how the interface behaves, transitions, responds, guides, and communicates across every GM brand, shaping how GM’s brands feel through motion and establishing a kinetic identity that future-proofs GM’s digital experience.
What You'll Do
- Build, scale, onboard, mentor, and grow the Motion team into a trusted team of experts.
- Define the flow, rhythm, and choreography of the interface so every brand interface moves with purpose.
- Articulate, craft, and own the UX motion strategy side by side with your team.
- Create high-quality animation for product, vision, and storytelling use.
- Define micro-interactions, transitions, gestures, and system behaviors.
- Establish motion guidelines with rules for timing, easing, behavior, and system dynamics.
- Define the conceptual foundation (Motion Principles) for how motion behaves across GM brands.
- Build scalable, reusable motion systems for motion across platforms.
- Create exportable, documented motion libraries across brand, platform, and feature sets.
- Provide motion support for video creation, including overlays, animation sequences, and UI kinetic treatments.
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of professional experience in Motion Design and/or UX Design.
- A portfolio of work showcasing ability to tell stories through visual craft.
- Self-starter with strong autonomy, comfortable identifying problem areas and tackling them independently.
- Deep understanding of human interface design best practices.
- Ability to iterate quickly, form a clear design point of view, and navigate cross-functional feedback.
- Ability to sell motion, craft a narrative, and communicate why one motion execution works over another.
- Strong design sensibility, passion for brand, and love for cars.
- High comfort level with technical complexity and experience working with engineers, product managers, and other partners.
Nice to Have
- 3+ years of professional experience as a people leader of a team.
- Examples of global motion executions and how and why they differ.
- Experience establishing and launching motion systems, principles, and rules as guidelines.
- Experience designing content for non-traditional interfaces (e.g., automotive, voice, or wearable devices).
Team & Environment
The Motion Systems Group resides in Vehicle OS under Human Interface Design.
