M&T Bank is hiring a Mortgage Closing Specialist II to act as the crucial intermediary for collecting, reviewing, and preparing information for the issuance of loan Closing Disclosures. In this role, you will collaborate closely with various parties to meet target close dates, ensuring accuracy across all critical loan components. You will be responsible for managing the pipeline to facilitate a seamless closing experience from start to finish.
What You'll Do
- Maintain effective communication with all necessary parties to ensure a seamless closing experience from CD preparation to final documents.
- Work with internal departments and external organizations to obtain required closing documentation and information.
- Perform thorough file reviews to ensure loan compliance with State and Federal guidelines, including homeowners, flood, title, and tax documents.
- Monitor and follow up on rate lock and document expirations.
- Review system of record information to ensure accurate closing documentation can be prepared.
- Validate fees, submit wires to fund loans within necessary timeframes, and prepare and issue CDs timely and accurately.
- Report system and closing document issues to management.
- Test closing documents and custom enhancements for system updates.
- Assist in onboarding and providing technical training for new employees and contractors.
- Aid with expanding departmental instructional manuals and materials.
- Serve as a senior staff member to support the Team Lead by answering questions, briefing peers on updates, and providing input on business practices.
- Adhere to applicable compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with Company and regulatory standards.
- Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of audit points.

- Complete other related duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- An Associate’s degree plus a minimum of 2 years’ prior Mortgage experience, OR in lieu of a degree, a combined 4 years’ of higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 2 years’ prior Mortgage experience.
- Strong PC skills with knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing, and email software.
- Specialized knowledge of all mortgage products, regulations, and policies.
- Ability to make sound decisions based on information provided.
- Versatility and flexibility working within an ever-changing fast-paced mortgage environment.
- Ability to function independently within time constraints.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize daily workload and work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and dependability.
- Active Notary Public commission.
Nice to Have
- Prior Mortgage Closing experience at a Lender, Title Company, or Settlement Agent’s office.
- Solid knowledge of Department-specific software.
Team & Environment
You will serve as a senior member of the staff, directly supporting the Team Lead by answering peer questions, briefing the team on policy updates, and providing considerable input on day-to-day business practices.
Benefits & Compensation
- Hourly pay range: $20.55 - $34.25 (USD)
