Alabama Virtual Academy (ALVA), a Stride K12 partner school, is hiring a Middle School Math Substitute Teacher for a temporary contract position. As a highly qualified, state-certified educator, you will deliver specific course content online, providing personalized instruction, support, and guidance with a focus on meeting students’ individual needs.
What You'll Do
- Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences.
- Commit to personalizing learning and believing in all students’ ability to succeed.
- Differentiate instruction based on student level of mastery.
- Augment course content using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools per policy.
- Maintain an accurate grade book, make student placement/promotion decisions, and alert administrators to concerns.
- Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests.
- Establish and maintain positive rapport with families, communicating regularly with students and learning coaches/parents.
- Support learning coaches/parents with curricular, instructional, and basic troubleshooting issues.
- Travel as required, approximately once per month or 20% of the time, for professional development, student testing, and school events.
- Monitor student progress through Stride K12’s learning management system.
- Work closely with students and parents/learning coaches to advance each student’s learning toward established goals.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree.
- Active state teaching license.
- Ability to clear required background check.
- Alabama Substitute OR Math Teaching Certificate.
- Residency in Alabama.
- Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week.
- Ability to maintain a professional, distraction-free home office during the workday.
Nice to Have
- Experience working with the proposed age group.
- Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology.
- Experience teaching in online (virtual) and/or brick-and-mortar environments.
- Experience with online learning platforms.
- Ability to work collaboratively to interpret numeric, tabular, and graphic student data to drive instruction.
- Receptive to receiving regular coaching from administrators and teacher trainers.
- Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint.
- Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
- Ability to maintain teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems.
