This internship offers a hands-on role for current students and recent graduates interested in U.S. foreign policy, particularly as it relates to the Middle East and South Asia. Interns will contribute directly to research and analysis efforts centered on regions such as Israel/Palestine, Iraq, Syria, Iran, the Gulf states, Turkey, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Work will support publications ranging from in-depth policy studies to timely commentary and op-eds.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct focused research on U.S. military and diplomatic strategies in key regions
- Support the development of policy papers, rapid-response analyses, and opinion pieces
- Assist staff with analytical tasks and background research
- Track breaking news and political developments relevant to ongoing projects
- Help coordinate outreach to congressional offices and monitor legislative activity
- Engage with communications initiatives and contribute to public-facing content
Qualifications
Candidates should have a clear interest in the geopolitics of the Greater Middle East and familiarity with current U.S. foreign policy debates. A foundational understanding of realism in international relations and the principles of military restraint is essential. Applicants must be currently enrolled in or have recently completed a degree in political science, international relations, economics, or a related humanities or social science field.
Strong written communication and research abilities are required, along with experience using AP or Chicago citation formats. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools is expected.
Preferred Skills
- Fluency in Turkish, Arabic, Persian, Pashto, or Urdu
- Background in economics or statistical analysis
- Experience creating data visualizations, maps, or charts
Work Environment
This position is available in a hybrid format, with options to work remotely within the United States or on-site in Washington, D.C. Interns will have opportunities to attend internal discussions, public events, and external engagements related to U.S. foreign policy and diplomatic strategy.
Compensation and Benefits
The internship is paid at a rate of $17.95 per hour.
