About the Role

Vaughan Regional Medical Center, a ScionHealth facility, is hiring a Medical Technologist to join our team. Under general supervision, you will perform and report routine and special laboratory tests on clinical specimens to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients.

What You'll Do

  • Perform analyses in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, blood bank, and microbiology according to expected performance standards.
  • Perform venipuncture, finger stick, or heel stick on identified patients by physician's request in a timely, accurate, and caring manner.
  • Keep documented records current regarding maintenance and quality control.
  • Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
  • Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct them or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director.
  • Follow the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • Current license issued by the State in which the laboratory is located, if such licensing is required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable safety, quality control, and specimen handling guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately when under strict deadlines.
  • Considerable knowledge of the theory and practice of clinical laboratory methods and instrumentation.
  • Working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, laboratory medicine, disease processes, and laboratory procedures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all patient and/or employee information.
  • Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
  • Must have good and regular attendance.

Nice to Have

  • Certification as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist by a nationally recognized agency/board.
  • 1–2 years of acute care hospital lab experience in high complexity testing.
