The City of New York’s Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) is hiring a Mediator and Intake Specialist / Clerical Associate. You will mediate consumer complaints by negotiating with both consumers and businesses to achieve equitable resolutions. This role involves analyzing complaints, performing data entry, providing customer service, and executing general clerical duties.
What You'll Do
- Communicate and interact with consumers and businesses on consumer-related complaints.
- Analyze, document, research, and resolve consumer complaints in accordance with DCWP-enforced laws and regulations.
- Maintain the Agency database and provide reports as needed.
- Perform data entry and input detailed, accurate notes into the Agency’s systems.
- Provide timely follow-up and closure for each consumer complaint.
- Answer calls and direct callers to appropriate channels promptly.
- Deliver accurate, complete information to callers.
- Process mail within assigned timeframes.
- Provide front desk reception coverage and assist walk-in consumers with filing complaints.
- Prepare training materials, maintain a knowledge database, and train others as needed.
- Perform other tasks and assignments as directed.
What We're Looking For
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization.
- One year of satisfactory clerical experience.
- Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.

You will be a member of a collaborative team within DCWP’s General Counsel Division.
Benefits & Compensation
- Salary range: USD46,503 - USD53,479.
