E Ink Corporation is hiring a Materials Characterization Scientist

About the Role

E Ink Corporation is hiring a Materials Characterization Scientist to lead the development of new techniques for investigating material properties and processes critical to electrophoretic displays. You will work in a cross-functional R&D team to solve technical challenges impacting the next generation of products.

What You'll Do

  • Own the development of characterization techniques for materials and processes used in polymeric thin film coatings, colloidal dispersions, and UV-curable formulations.
  • Institute in-process quality control metrics for critical-to-function items during technology transfer to pilot and production.
  • Establish process-structure-property relationships through fundamental mechanism studies, design of experiments, and statistical analysis.
  • Build theories to explain colloid and coating behavior through characterization of surface, interfacial, bulk, and processing properties.
  • Explore new methods available externally, collaborate with global analytical labs and production sites, and enhance in-house instrumentation.
  • Effectively communicate with all levels of the organization and work safely in the lab adhering to EH&S best practices.

What We're Looking For

  • Ph.D. or M.S. in materials science, polymer science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of industry experience.
  • Demonstrated record of independent technical leadership in materials characterization for dispersions, polymers, thin films, coatings, and their processes.
  • Advanced expertise in at least one major characterization domain: interfacial, mechanical, or chemical.
  • Strong working knowledge across multiple other characterization methods including microscopy, spectroscopy, thermal, and electrical methods.
  • Proven ability to interpret and draw conclusions from ambiguous or conflicting data to translate results into actionable guidance for formulations and processes.
  • Evidence of driving projects from initiation to conclusion through accurate issue definition, root cause analysis, design of experiments, and statistical analysis.

Team & Environment

You will join a cross-functional R&D team working on the forefront of electronic ink technology.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Compensation range: $130,000-$160,000
  • Competitive Total Compensation Package
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage effective on your first day
  • Company 401K match
  • Paid Time Off & Holidays
  • Sick Leave Policy
  • Casual day-to-day work environment
  • Hybrid/flexible work environment (for some positions)
  • Bonus program eligibility
