Duke University is seeking a Material Control Supervisor to oversee the clerical and manual tasks involved in receiving, storing, and issuing equipment, materials, and supplies. You will be responsible for driving the daily movement of critical items across campus.
What You'll Do
- Supervise clerical and manual tasks for receipt, verification, storage, safekeeping, and issuance of equipment, materials, and supplies in a University stockroom or warehouse.
- Supervise handling of incoming and outgoing shipments, verification of new merchandise against purchase orders and invoices, price marking and transfer of merchandise.
- Coordinate the delivery and pick up of interoffice mail.
- Maintain outstanding order, purchase order and requisition files; conduct special and scheduled inventories.
- Plan, schedule, and supervise the work of stockroom or warehouse personnel ensuring proper distribution of assignments, adequate manning, space and facilities.
- Research and recommend the ordering of equipment, materials and supplies as needed.
- Prepare reports and analyses setting forth stock turnover, new merchandise received, shortage or overstock of merchandise and damaged goods.
- Recommend various personnel actions including hiring, performance appraisals, promotions and vacation schedules.
- Train new personnel.
What We're Looking For
- High school education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three (3) years’ experience in shipping/receiving or related setting.
Nice to Have
- Experience running a stockroom or warehouse and keeping inventory organized and accurate.
- Comfortable using inventory or ERP (enterprise resource planning) systems and pulling simple reports.
- Solid people skills—able to guide, schedule, and support a small team.
- Familiar with safe handling, storage, and basic shipping/receiving practices; able to help coordinate campus deliveries and mail.
- Supervisory experience a plus.
