Pennsylvania State University is seeking a part-time Master Gardener Coordinator for Somerset County. This role coordinates the Master Gardener Program, working closely with volunteers to provide education on sustainable horticulture practices to county residents.

What You'll Do

Serve as the Master Gardener spokesperson and liaison between County Extension offices, the state-level program, and volunteers.
Provide community outreach with volunteers to educate consumers on horticultural and environmental issues.
Work with volunteer committees to initiate, staff, manage, evaluate, and report on programs.
Recruit, select, train, and manage volunteers, ensuring compliance with university policies.
Oversee volunteer projects and identify professional development opportunities.
Manage business and program development meetings and volunteer fiscal matters.
Engage community members to promote Extension, the Master Gardener Program, and Penn State.
Develop revenue enhancement strategies to obtain additional resources for the program.
Identify educational needs and maintain relationships with the county and other organizations.
Use technology, mass media, and personal contacts to deliver and manage educational programs.
Ensure compliance with the affirmative action plan.
Perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Degree in Horticulture, Environmental Science, or a similar field, or equivalent experience.
Ability to manage volunteers, inspire leadership, and build community partnerships.
Strong organizational and communication skills, both oral and written.
Computer literacy including Microsoft Word, SharePoint, Zoom, Outlook email, and web browsers.

Nice to Have

Experience managing volunteers.
Background or education related to horticulture or environmental science.
Experience in adult or non-formal education.

Team & Environment

Administratively responsible to the Area Master Gardener Coordinator and the State Master Gardener Coordinator. Works with Master Gardeners and Master Volunteer Committees.
