As the Manager of Software Engineering, you will guide a distributed team of developers building and enhancing a cloud-based IT operations solution. You'll combine hands-on technical leadership with strategic oversight, ensuring robust architecture, clean code, and efficient delivery across UI, server, and agent components.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead full-stack development efforts, contributing directly when needed to advance project goals
- Conduct in-depth code reviews and provide technical guidance during integration and deployment cycles
- Shape the technical roadmap while fostering alignment across UI, Mobile, Server, and Agent teams
- Coach engineers through regular feedback, helping them grow their design and problem-solving skills
- Identify inefficiencies in current systems and lead initiatives to improve performance and maintainability
- Work closely with Project Managers to prioritize tasks, track progress, and uphold development standards
- Partner with Product Owners and stakeholders to define meaningful requirements and long-term vision
- Ensure adherence to secure coding practices, CI/CD pipelines, and internal engineering guidelines
Qualifications
Candidates should hold a degree in Computer Science or a related field, or demonstrate equivalent experience. A minimum of 10 years in software development—particularly in distributed systems—is required, along with at least 3 years managing engineering teams.
Proven expertise in software architecture, API design, caching strategies, and key-value datastores is essential. Experience mentoring developers, leading remote teams, and promoting critical thinking in technical design is expected. Familiarity with security best practices and agile development workflows is a must.
Bilingual English-Spanish ability is valued and may give candidates a competitive edge.
Technology Environment
The platform leverages Java, Kotlin, C++, and Golang, with Postgres as a core datastore and AWS for cloud infrastructure. The system emphasizes asynchronous design, large-scale data handling, and client-server communication patterns.
Work Environment
This is a full-time hybrid role open to candidates in select U.S. states. Employees may work remotely or from physical offices in Austin, TX or Tampa, FL. Positions are not available to those residing within Chicago city limits.
