About the Role

Liberty Mutual Canada is looking for a Manager, Operational Risk Management (ORM). This national role oversees the day-to-day management of Operational Risk within the Enterprise Risk Management function. You will report to the AVP, Risk Manager and collaborate closely with senior Canadian and global leadership.

What You'll Do

  • Represent Canada Operational Risk Management, collaborating with stakeholders across Canada, North America, and globally for effective risk oversight.
  • Implement, monitor, and enhance a comprehensive Operational Risk Management program, including oversight of Key Risk Indicators and tolerance thresholds.
  • Coordinate periodic risk and control self-attestations to validate controls and ensure remediation of gaps.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify, assess, and prioritize operational risks that could threaten strategic objectives.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on operational risk, offering guidance on identification, mitigation, and risk-and-control assessments.
  • Monitor shifts in the operational risk profile, analyze trends, and shape mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure awareness of and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Support assessment and aggregation of the GRS operational risk profile in coordination with the wider team.
  • Establish and maintain robust risk-reporting systems that deliver timely, accurate insights and escalate issues.
  • Participate in group-wide harmonization of operational risk methodology and support consolidation of enterprise platforms.
  • Contribute to the GRS rollout and operationalization of the new group-wide operational risk management system for Canada.
  • Assist the AVP with preparation for and presentation to Canada Risk Committee and GRS Operational Risk Management Committee meetings.
  • Lead large-scale projects (e.g., third-party risk management, operational resiliency) from concept through implementation with minimal supervision.
  • Prioritize workload effectively to meet competing demands and deadlines.
  • Challenge the status quo, pilot new approaches, and help develop industry-leading ERM practices.
  • Support additional initiatives to advance the ERM function and broader business objectives.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 8-10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in operational risk management including assessment methodologies and risk reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of operational processes, controls, and regulations within the Finance industry, preferably in insurance or banking.
  • Ability to build strong partnerships with stakeholders at all levels and influence outcomes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts to non-technical individuals.
  • Ability to perform high level work both independently and collaboratively as a team member or leader.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to perform complex analysis and make data-driven decisions.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.

Nice to Have

  • Advanced education or professional qualification(s) (MBA, CPA, or similar).
  • Professional qualification in one or more areas of risk management.

Team & Environment

You will report to the Assistant Vice President, Risk Manager. You will collaborate closely with the SVP, Head of Business Alignment & Chief Risk Officer, as well as other Canadian and global leaders across and beyond the ERM team.

  • Compensation: CAD $120,000 – 150,000
