Duke University was looking for a Manager of Academic Policies

Lead the development and clarity of academic policy at a major research institution by ensuring policies are well-documented, accessible, and aligned with institutional standards. The Manager of Academic Policies serves as the central point of contact for policy interpretation, supporting faculty, staff, and leadership across a decentralized academic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the evaluation and improvement of standard operating procedures related to academic program approvals, degree requirements, and certificate oversight.
  • Respond to policy questions from across the university, offering clear, accurate guidance on academic regulations and governance processes.
  • Support institutional and program-specific accreditation efforts, including documentation, reporting, and readiness for evaluation visits.
  • Build and maintain a centralized, searchable digital repository for academic policies in coordination with IT and communications teams, enhancing transparency and compliance.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree is required, along with a minimum of four years of experience in academic administration, policy coordination, or accreditation in higher education. Preferred candidates hold an advanced degree and have direct experience with curriculum governance, policy lifecycle management, or institutional compliance.

Essential skills include strong project coordination, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex policies clearly. Proficiency with content management systems, databases, and Microsoft Office is expected. Familiarity with policy management platforms is beneficial.

Work Environment

This role operates in a hybrid format, allowing flexibility between on-site and remote work within approved locations. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be needed during high-activity periods, such as accreditation cycles.
