Colas Rail UK is hiring a Maintenance Manager to lead a specialist engineering team, delivering safe and effective maintenance and repair of plant for Network Rail projects. You will be responsible for motivating your team, ensuring work conforms to contract specifications, and providing first-level response to machine failures.
What You'll Do
- Manage and motivate a specialist engineering team to deliver efficient maintenance and repair.
- Ensure all work is performed safely, conforming to contract specifications and safety legislation.
- Hold monthly safety meetings with direct reports, including Cascade Safety Briefs.
- Ensure all staff are briefed on technical and administrative instructions.
- Plan and ensure adequate resources are available for all work sites.
- Oversee the safe and effective operation of machines and the implementation of safety locks.
- Conduct accurate and prompt reporting of all faults in line with company procedures.
- Carry out daily checks, servicing, and internal inspections as directed.
- Promote improvements in Safety, Health, and Environmental management.
- Collaborate effectively with and respond to the needs of Network Rail.
- Act as instructed for On-Call duties, providing technical assistance for incidents and accidents.
- Report to Colas Control for accidents, incidents, emergencies, or operational issues.
- Perform any other reasonable duties as required.
What We're Looking For
- Always consider safety as the primary priority.
- A minimum of 3 years experience maintaining large rail plant or systems.
- Excellent planning and organizational capabilities.
- Previous project management or engineering experience.
- Excellent communication and motivation skills.
- Knowledge of railway rules, regulations, standards, and relevant safety legislation.
- Knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act.
- Trained in Risk Management or Risk Assessment techniques.
- Knowledge of accident investigation techniques.
- Hold a PTS (Personal Track Safety) certificate.
- Understanding of Network Rail Line Standards.
- Extensive computer literacy.
- Understanding of commercial processes and requirements.
- Ensure mandatory PPE is worn by all staff at all times.
- Participate in regular monthly safety meetings and accident investigations.
Team & Environment
You will manage a specialist engineering team, including roles like Project Manager, Reliability Engineer, and Warranty Engineer, and report directly to the Plant Operations Manager.
