First Momentum Ventures is seeking a Magnet Lead as the first technical engineer for a pre-seed startup industrialising fusion and superconducting magnet systems. This is a full-ownership, hands-on role to define the magnet program from scratch, working directly with the CEO and COO.
What You'll Do
- Own system-level architecture of the HTS magnet platform.
- Design, develop, and validate HTS coils for fusion and MRI-class applications.
- Lead demountable superconducting joint development.
- Drive quench detection, protection, and instrumentation efforts.
- Execute prototype campaigns from bench experiments to sub-scale hardware.
- Define the path from early prototypes toward repeatable, industrialised production.
What We're Looking For
- Deep experience with superconducting magnet systems (HTS preferred; strong LTS fundamentals acceptable).
- Demonstrated ownership of real hardware: you have built, tested, debugged, and iterated.
- Familiarity with REBCO/HTS materials, coil winding, quench protection, and superconducting instrumentation.
- Comfort with high autonomy and low structure at an early-stage company.

- Experience bridging research and product development.
- Interest in design-to-manufacture and industrialisation of advanced systems.
